"So is Ham short for something?" - Rose
"My guess is Ham and Potatos!" - Sophia

Makes me LMAO everytime.

I just noticed something watching the latest WE GG marathon.

In the episode where Sophia goes to by a nectarine, Dorothy tells a story about how her 96-year-old grandmother in a wheelchair. Rose asks how she died, and Dorothy goes "She was 96 when I was 6 years old, what do you think?"

but in the mother's day episode where they all have flashbacks, In Sophia's flashback, they show Dorothy's grandmother (who I assume is the same one, both were portrayed as in a wheelchair and ornery) when Dorothy is well into her 20s.

Unless she lived into the 110's.

Oh, GG writers and their discrepancies.
Or: Tri orísky pro Popelku

This movie might be a bit obscure for people in the US, but it's still very popular in Europe, especially in Germany. Consider it our equivalent of "A Christmas Story" - the movie you just HAVE to watch at least once during Christmas season and any other time you feel down. IMDB link

They are both still working actors, mostly starring in Czech TV series. Pavel also owns a theater in Prague.

This seems to be an interesting article about those two. Unfortunately I can't make much sense of the online translation I got. Does anybody understand Norwegian?

Do you have any GG-based screen names on any of the social networking sites and such?

My screen name pretty much everywhere these days is a variation of "SHADY PINES, MA," including my Twitter. I've pretty much adopted Dorothy as my online identity.

Man: Telegram for Miss Deverux?
Dorothy: Oh that's 'Devereaux'. It's only pronounced 'Deverux' in limericks.

NEWBIE!

  • Jul. 17th, 2009 at 9:17 PM

HI...
  I'm Samantha, 21, and overweight.

I tried SouthBeach when I was like 16 or 17 because my already skinny cousin was doing it and losing some weight and told me to try it. I lost weight... And when I got to the middle of my second week of phase one... I stopped. Stupid I know. I've tried everything though. But with this diet, it was the one positive experience. Like I wasn't starving when I went to bed, I felt good, and I was losing weight. So Today is my first day back on! Woot!!!!

CW- 2frickin65.
GW- right now... 200
         ultimately... 160.

I need support to help me and I will give support back.

Also, I just started my livejournal, but if you want to read more in depth... go to my page.

Sometimes the mind has a tendacy to wander and when one is obsessed with The Golden Girls and has seen every episode umpteen-hundred times, sometimes the mind starts wondering about little details that don't really matter to anybody else except maybe other obsessed GG fans.

For example:  I was watching the season 6 episodes where Dorothy and Stan decide to remarry and it dawned on me that Stan's proposal may not be so odd, but more of a bizarre, capitalistic, selfish act.  He invents the Zbornee, makes millions of dollars, woos Dorothy back, and proposes to her by putting an engagement ring in a baked potato - the very thing that prompted him to create the product that made him millions.  And then of course he doesn't want Dorothy to have his Zbornee money, wants her to sign the prenup, and she's like "F you Stanley, wtf am I thinking?!?!  C'mon Ma, let's go on my honeymoon so Debbie Reynolds doesn't have to sleep in a hotel."  So my point is, maybe Stan wasn't trying to be original but was just promoting his own success.  Wonder if he brought a Zbornee to the restaurant!

Then I was thinking about the story Dorothy tells about when Stan proposed to her the first time.  She mentions they went out to a fancy dinner and she wolfed down champagne that didn't go down smoothly and three days later the ring turns up on the Home Shopping Network (that line always makes me laugh).  But how could a couple of teenagers afford a fancy dinner, champagne and an engagement ring?  And how is it romantic when they were having a shotgun wedding? (Or according to Rose, a blowgun wedding).

I tend to overanalyze some of the details on the show, but it's fun to think about.

To be young and beautiful, it's just an accident of nature.
But to be older and beautiful...you earned that.

The 7th September is looming over the horizon and I con't believe that it's almost a year since RENT closed on Broadway. It's a show that changed my life and saved my life and I can't imagine life without this amazing music and story. I never got to see it live because New York is a long long expensive way away but thanks to the film and especially the filmed live on broadway DVD I got to experiance this amazing show. This is my tribute to the greatest story ever written.

Just want to say Hi! :-)

Don't know why i decided to write in this journal. I have terrible English skills, some times people don't understand even my native Russian ))) But anyway, i'm here cause  freaking american food is too tasty for me...

Me and my husband had to settle in Houston for the next 3 years and this is my big challenge. And I started it with tasting a new food: new sweets, new bakery, new ways to cook a meat meal, new sodas, new everything... and after nice carrier in Russia - now i'm a housewife who like to play World of Warcraft on-line and chat with friends through the internet... and eat american food! ;-)

So, i came here with 132 lbs. Year is gone. Now i have 156 lbs - and this is not right at all. Russian good looking woman should be slimmer, lighter and etc - so, this is my challenge now !

We are planning our vacation to Moscow in late september - and i want to be recognizable by my friends :-)

22lbs to go. 2 lbs off for 1st week! :-)
